Award Winning Instrument Makers

Jason Lu with Mr. SunMr. Xue Chang Sun is one of the best makers in China. He began making his first instruments in the late 1960 as an apprentice at the strings instrument company in Beijing. This company produced many excellent makers who have won awards in the United States, Europe and Asia.

Mr. Sun specializes in cello and bass making. In 1987, he won a gold medal for craftsmanship and a silver medal for tone in cello making at the National Violin Making Competition in China. In 1995, he established his workshop. Having developed a passion for beauty and craftsmanship for instruments making over his professional career, it is not surprising that his workmanship has been appreciated among some of the most prestigious luthiers and shops in Asia, Europe, Canada and the United States. In 2002, he won a certificate of merit for bass workmanship at the 15th International Competition and Exhibition held at the prestigious Violin Society of America in the United States of America.

Jason Lu with Mr. ZhuMr. Ming Jiang Zhu has won numerous prizes in top international violin making contests since 1986,including two gold medals in 1994 and 2006, a silver medal in 2000 for his violins, and a silver medal in 1996 for his viola at the prestigious Violin Society of America International Competition and Exhibition held every other year in the United States of America.

In 1975, Ming Jiang was chosen to study at the Guangzhou Musical Instuments School, which produced many well-known world class makers. Two years later he was working for the Guangzhou Musical Instrument Research Institute, where scientific research and hand-on practice in instrument making prepared him for his craft. In 1991, he opened his own workshop making and sell his own brand – Mingjiang Violins.
